Episode 28 - America's First Diplomatic Crisis

As the tension between Britain and France heightened after the French Revolution, America sought to remain neutral with both nations. Perceived slights and increased acts of aggression boiled over; the final straw, an event known as the “XYZ Affair,” incited American rage toward their former ally. The diplomatic crisis that ensued and its resolution had a lasting impact on the second president as well as the country’s position on the international stage.
