Episode 29 - Ballots Over Bullets

After the death of Washington and following the first term of John Adams, the second president, American political culture shifted. The two primary parties, the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans, were at odds with each other on issues both foreign and domestic. Even after Adams and his Federalist Party were clearly beaten, the political crisis of 1800 was not resolved due to a voting issue. Its resolution would require a peaceful transfer of power from one party to another.
