Episode 63 - Sherman's March to the Sea
The outlook for the Union was far from optimistic in the back half of 1864. The nation was facing an election with monumental implications as Lincoln faced his former army commander George McClellan. Promising an end to the war, McClellan had Lincoln desperately seeking a victory. In a bold move, General Sherman cut his own supply lines and marched his army to Savannah, scorching the South in the first modern, total-war, military campaign.
