Episode 34 - The Second War of Independence
Due a variety of factors, including the British impressment of American sailors, war came upon America in 1812. In a little-known bit of history, the United States invaded Canada, of which Britain owned a major part. After exchanging wins and losses with the British, the Americans suffered an 1814 invasion of their capital city, Washington D.C. The British burned the capitol building and the White House, too. In the end, however, the Americans won the war. The conflict’s greatest battle, though, came after the peace treaty had been signed.
