Taking place just three years after the Nazis rise to power, the 1936 Berlin Olympics were Hitler’s chance to display Aryan supremacy on the world stage and soften global views of Germany. His plans were interrupted most drastically by none other than a black American track star from Ohio, Jesse Owens. Owens’ incredible athletic performance demanded recognition of his excellence, contrary to the Nazi racial agenda.
